This was *fantastic*. I loved that the "slices of life" of each birthday tied into the next and was used to build up the entirety of the story. There's a lot of back story that you craft in without actually writing and it gives this fic a rich depth, very well done ^_^

Awwwwww! My favorite bit:

His first toy broomstick. Draco streaks up and out into an endless blue expanse -- he's finally found something he loves, really loves. His triumphant cry turns into a shriek as a helicopter passes overhead.

"It's okay, honey," says Narcissa, hugging him close as he hides his tear-stained face in her robes. "It's gone. The Muggles can't hurt you here."

Draco and his helicopter stories will always have a special place in my heart.

No, he realises. He doesn't. Draco's adventure in Glasgow meant nothing; he still felt the same way about Harry afterward. Still feels the same way now.

Oh. That's awful, truly.

This is a beautiful timeline. I like the spoiled little Draco "better than Christmas" indeed! I like that you don't make their relationship easy or happily ever after until the end.

The sex party broke my heart. The final birthday was great. Just enough angst, but the promise of a new beginning.

That was quite an emotional rollercoaster ride - but the ending made me melt into a puddle of goo, which is the best thing for a birthday story :))

The spindly man named Karkaroff and Draco's father spend more than an hour behind a large wooden door, talking about Draco's future.
"They must be showing off their boy bits to each other," suggests Draco to his mother, who gives a bright, rolling laugh in response.

Wow.


His first toy wand. Draco runs around the magnolia orchard, shouting, "Abracadabra!" and waving the wand furiously at every tree and bush in sight.

"What are you doing?" asks his father, chuckling.

Draco gives him a look that's too serious for a boy barely five years old. "I'm killing the evil Muggles," he says. "So they can't take my princess away."

This was one of my favourites.


It's ironic, but the best birthday Draco has ever had is today. He lets his bottled-up emotions run free as he capers around the mended Vanishing Cabinet, no longer caring who might hear him from the corridor outside. His birthday present is his family's guaranteed safety. He has never received anything better.


This too, because it was so completely canon.



Not sure if you're aware, but June 5th is also World Environment Day. =D The only message I can draw from this is that JKR had 'GREEN' in mind, lol!

Yay! Lovely. I didn't really know what to expect with all the pairings but then when I saw the structure of the fic it made perfect sense. It was nice for both of them to have a history of sorts before getting together. And I'm really relieved there was a happy H/D ending there after the drama. Thank you!

The Leaky is almost empty; the barman stands in front of him, swiping a rag that's seen better days over a glass that's seen better nights.

The structure of this piece is very unique and well crafted. The above line is my favorite. I love it when a group of words is so poetic I have to reread it just to savor the flow of it.

This story was really, really great. I loved everything about it. However, I believe you made a mistake and forgot to put details of his birthday during his second year because the story jumps from talking about Harry and Draco's detention to talking about Buckbeak.

Thank you very much! You're right, of course -- I knew there was a reason I was surprised that Draco ended up spending 2 birthdays in Azkaban when I'd originally meant for him to only spend one. :"> Fixing it now. :)
